Now that 6.6.x is out, is the custom BOINC version still required for linux/PS3?

I would guess Yes. The 'Custom' Boinc client for PS3 is written specifically for the Cell processor.....

There just has been no activity (improvements..?) on this client since the tidal wave of GPU activity.
