Message 1039 - Posted: 31 Mar 2008 | 18:38:43 UTC
Last modified: 31 Mar 2008 | 19:02:07 UTC

Hi I have installed Yellowdog Linux and the PS3Grid version of Boinc however I can\'t get a work unit to fully download and start working.

Boinc repeatedly fails to download the following files:

Licence
copyright
TIM1.pid
TIM1.psf
ParametersTIM
TIM4

It either gets 0% or downloads 30 bytes and then stops.

This doesn\'t seem to be a connection issue, it managed to download all other parts successfully.

When I click on \'retry now\' I get the following message in the messages tab:

Mon 31 Mar 2008 19:06:48 MDT|PS3GRID|[file_xfer] Started download of file TIM1.pdb
Mon 31 Mar 2008 19:06:49 MDT|PS3GRID|[file_xfer] Temporarily failed download of TIM1.pdb: file not found

I\'ve been having this problem for 2-3 days now after originally assuming it was a server issue. Can anyone help or point me towards somewhere I can manually download the files from?

I have since tried detaching fom and reattatching to the project and also resetting the project. I even tried re-downloading the boinc software. It\'s frustrating after all the effort getting Linux installed for this to fail at the last and easiest part :(

Today the server had been down for few hours.
Maybe, you were downloading in the middle of the downtime.

No, this is an ongoing problem for new users or old ones that are trying to reattach to this project.

I had posted the issue in this sub-forum, however some fool moved my posts to the \'website issues\'... Please move this thread: http://www.ps3grid.net/forum_thread.php?id=197 to this subforum as it is affecting multiple people. We cannot download a number of files as we are receiving \'file not found\' messages. This has been going on for over a week.

http://www.ps3grid.net/PS3GRID/forum_thread.php?id=146 - If you would read at least this sticky thread you would know why this fool had merged your thread.

GDF was aware of the 197 thread, because I emailed him about the download issue a few days ago, I don´t know why he don´t posts in that thread.

And a note to everyone - keep on creating new threads about the same issue every day! Why use a already created thread? It´s much better to have his \"one\" one...

What do you think is easier to follow for a dev without much time? One thread all about the same problem, or 10 different threads about the same problem?

Who really cares...

Stefan,

while I agree he shouldn\'t have called you a fool he did have one valid point. I personally don\'t think \'web site\' was a good forum for the thread to be in. Now I am new to this site and project. When I had the problem I did a number of things.

1. Waited and tried again
2. Did everything I could think of my end to resolve it
3. Came on here and searched the forums both manually in the relevant forums and using the search forums option.
4. Did a google search
5. Finally having actually looked quite hard I made a new post in what I thought was the most approprite forum.

The point being I never thought to look in \'web site\' or at a sticky called \'postings\' in the \'number crunching\' forum (something I am unable to do).

This is not meant as critisism of you or anyone else associated with the website, it is merely honest well meant feedback from someone very keen to contribute to this project.

I agree with you that it\'s important for the PS3Grid developers to have one thread to follow. However it\'s also important that anyone who has this problem in future will easily be able to find a relevant post and be able to resolve their problem.

Another important reason for one thread is, develoeprs or moderators can subscribe to the thread. When a new post is made whomever is subscribed gets an email and then knows that a problem needs looking at. When a new thread is started, it could be some time before they have time to view the message board and discover this. For these two reasons is why I had \'suggested\' this, its not a rule written in stone, but it will help everyone involved, those with the problem, and those that can fix the problem.

We, including the moderators, are just trying to help. Sometime, with many posts, some are missed until there are many incidences. Moving and grouping threads is helpful in this sense.
Please try to keep the correct tone for a forum. You can also write to people if something is missed.

Back to the problem,
now I have also received a direct email from another user few days ago.
The fact is that the number of incidences is high, but there are still over 100 wu a day which are correctly downloaded from users. I am not quite sure what they are doing in the server room, but there have been a hardware failure of some sort. Maybe is this one which affects only some networks.

Still having problems with WUs here... the files finally downloaded at some point and I checked the PS3 today to find a WU running over 60 hours with no progress. I aborted to find this:

23270 18201 1 Apr 2008 3:00:39 UTC 4 Apr 2008 7:01:48 UTC Over Client error Aborted by user 210,515.60 209.53 ---

210K seconds on 209 credit? What the hell is going on here? I am officially done with this project until some major changes happen. I\'m not going to waste my electricity anymore.

Note: the problems people are having with downloads/etc are either NEW to the project, or ppl that are returning after long hiatus. Just because your system is running fine does NOT mean it will for everyone else. QA can be a good thing.

I\'m out.

Nope. I had the problem, and have been running the project since June 2007. However, it seems to be fixed for me (knock wood).

I have asked this question before and had no luck getting a response from those having problems.....has your ps3 been upgraded to firmware 2.2?? This Sony upgrade was recently released and may not be compatible with the present ps3grid program. The latest release at ps3grid is for firmware 2.1.

Who are you addressing this to? My FW is VERY old. 2.1 or earlier. In any case, I thought the FW version was only a problem for the thumb drive users. Mine is running off the HD.

OK thanks for the answer. I was just speculating in general. In all fairness to those in this thread, my original query was in a different thread.
It just seemed that these problems appeared at the same time as the Sony upgrade and I was curious. It must be coincidental....cheers, Rog.

The download problem, as far as I know, is fixed now.
