I am new to this particular project and I wanted to give it a try after watching all the videos on the front page. I have a desktop but that is currently running a lot of other projects. I use my 11 inch W110ER for work and play and it's my main computer (and most powerful). It has just completed its first WU in about 30 ish hours. The next one is also going to take ~30 hours. Just wanted to post! Anybody else using any mobile cards/ 11 inch laptops for this project?!

Not crunching with my laptop, but I've got some reamrks anyway:

Your GT650M is borderline for long-runs tasks. If you keep running 24/7 you can manage the tasks within time. But if you're struggling with the deadline (and GPU-Grid needs tasks back as quickly as possible) you can switch to shorter tasks in your profile.

IF you update your driver to the current 327.xx one you'll get CUDA 5.5 tasks instead of 4.2 now. This speeds things up a bit further :)

I can imagine it is borderline. The current WU that just finished was due October 1st and my next one is due October 2nd! haha If I let it run 24/7 it seems I could easily meet deadlines. It does not affect my performance at all since my laptop is optimus enabled. It also uses around 70 watts with under full load so the power to performance ratio is pretty amazing imo. My cards theoretical gflops is 730.

I actually have driver version 327.23. I have not looked but I would assume the latest driver has cuda 5.5

edit: the project notes say (cuda55)

I don't know why ASUS disabled optimus on its ROG laptops. I could easily let the discrete card run GPUGRID and use the graphics accelerator in the i7 CPU to watch videos etc. OC'ing my card eliminates most of the lag produced by GPUGRID, but still, such a waste of potential.

I wouldn't run this project 24/7 on a laptop.

But if you insist I would set your minimum and maximum work buffer to "0" so that you only get a new WU when you have finished the last one. That way they're not sitting in your queue with the clock ticking.

Thanks for that tip! That is very useful!

I have been running projects on my laptop for about a year now. Max temps hover around 62-70c at most on the GPU (70c being when the CPU is running full bore at 3.6GHz). Running it 24/7 will not hurt it at all. And if it does, I have yet to see it.

Optimus is perfect! It's too bad they disabled it on Asus laptops. The whole reason why I let it run 24/7 is because of optimus.

Right.. looking at your tasks I saw that the WU you completed was 4.2, but failed to see that all others were already 5.5. Everything's OK then :)
