When I reply to a private message, the reply does not appear in the thread. I do not know if the original poster is seeing my replies.

This is the default behavior for everyone, right? A bit frustrating, I understand, but at present this is the comment and messaging system we have (by way of boinc). If there is a way to improve it, I will in the future updates.

The easiest way to send a PM to someone and keep a copy is to add your own name or ID number.
So if Tomba wanted to send a PM message to Nate, and keep a copy of the sent message, Tomba could send the message to Nate and Tomba by adding Tomba's own name or number in the To box,

    To 77347 (Nate), 16630
    or
    To 77347 (Nate), tomba

If you forget to do this but remember just after you send a message, go Back in the web browser and change the recipient to your ID number.
So, Tomba could go back and enter 16630 and Nate would enter 77347 as the recipient.

    To
User IDs or unique usernames, separated with commas

The text could be bigger and more explanatory. Ideally a big text tip could be used (on mouse over).

A 'sent items' facility for personal messages (separate from the 'copy to self' that skgiven describes) would be a much-welcomed contribution to the core BOINC code across all projects.

Yeah but I doubt Nate can actually afford the time to dig into the Boinc code base to add such functionallity. This should probably be done by the Boinc guys.

Yeah but I doubt Nate can actually afford the time to dig into the Boinc code base to add such functionallity. This should probably be done by the Boinc guys.

Much of the BOINC code base was contributed by volunteers. Apparently, according to a set of slides I was looking at from last week's workshop (not accessible at the moment because of the power failure at Berkeley), "the Boinc guys" are two and a half people with 18 months NSF funding remaining.

Nate seemed willing to look at the possibility of improving the current messaging system - that would take time, whichever way it was done. I was merely wondering whether it was possible to consider a general solution, rather than a project-specific one.

Thanks for the heads-up everyone. I assume my posts get seen by the recipient even though they are not added to the thread...

FWIW, I subscribed to this thread but received no notifications!

Yes, your PM's get seen by the recipient, but they are not added to the thread you quoted from or referenced.
The notifications are emails, not PM's (check your email junk).
Also, if you subscribe to a thread it should be highlighted in the sub forum it's in (Graphics cards (GPUs), Server and website, Number crunching...).
