As announced on the front page, Sony cut the price of the PS3 by $100 bucks, in the US.

I bought one not long ago at $599.99 US not including other add-ons.

Today at Amazon.com (In the US)
The price is $499.99

and

Heres an update on PS3 prices in the US.

The above mentioned special only lasted about 1 week.

Next the PS3-60GB was avaialble for $499.99 plus you could get 5 free Blu-ray movies with a mail in offer, but the choice was limited to about 21 titles and you had to pick 1 title from each group, there were 5 groups. Still a good deal but with limited choices.

Now you can get the PS3-60GB for $499.99 and get 8 free movies, 3 you can pick immediately from a list of about 100 and then also send in the above mention mail in offer for 5 more.

And the reason for the price drop....

The new PS3-80GB with Motorstorm is out at $599.99

So the price drop is to clear warehouses out of the older model.

I have not reviewed the tech specs to see if there were any other changes.

Latest deals in the US:

The deal at Amazon.com (US) keeps changing. It runs for a while and then goes away and then they run some other simialr deal.

They are on about the 4th one now cut down to buy a PS3 60GB at $499.99 US or 80GB at $599.99 US and get 5 free blu ray DVD with a mail in offer. The offer is limited to picking 1 each from 5 differnet groups with 3 to 6 choices per group. This is similar to the last deal but some of the titles have changed. Still a good deal as this is about a $115 bonus.

---

Another deal I can find is direct from Sony USA. You can apply for a SonyCard Visa credit card by Chase and get $100 credit if you spend $299 or more. Plus you can make no interest payments for 12 months. So You can buy the PS3-80GB for $599.99, get $100 back making the total cost $499.99 (plus shipping and taxes), spread your payments out over 12 months and pay around $42 a month. Or pay the minimum and a large payment in month 12, just make sure you pay the full amount before the 12 months or they add on a high interset rate. There was free shipping for a while but that ended. There will be a shipping charge plus state sales tax (varies by state).

Go to Sony.com, select shop on the menu, more sony shopping, gaming and multimedia and then finally playstation store or just Sony PlayStation Store

Not sure how long this offer has been there or how long it will last.

---

In the US the 80GB model comes packaged with the MotorStorm game.

---

The Amazon deal is actually better value, but if you cannot afford to pay all at once, the direct from Sony deal will save interest on payments made over a year.

In the US, the price on the PS3-80GB has dropped to $499.99. Plus at Amazon.com you can still get the 5 free blu-ray DVD\'s as mentioned in previous post. Offer good until Janury 31 2008.

The 60-GB model remains at 499.99 until sold out.

Great deals keep popping up everywhere.

In addition to the 5 free blu-ray DVD offer, which is offered by the manufacturer and good on any Playstation 3 purchase I have found some other deals. Offer good in US and Canada, see website for details www.bluraysavings.com

walmart.com has the new PS3-40GB avaialble for pre-order $399.82

walmart.com offers the PS3-60GB with a blu-ray DVD remote controller and choice of 1 game (NBA 08, Heavenly Sword, Lair, Warhawk, Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm or Formula 1 Championship Edition) for $499.82

bestbuy.com is offereing the PS3-60GB model with choice of extra wireless controller, Lair or Heavenly Sword for $499.99

I expect with the Christmas shopping season just beginning there will be more deals as stores try to compete for your shopping dollars this year.

Fluke - Being in the right place at the right time. A certain Big Box chain had a store that apparently was not \"making its numbers\", and slashed prices on the PS/3 40gb to $299, in order to generate enough sales to \"make their numbers\". Lasted about 48 hours. I was able to get 2 @ $299 ea.

Wild Rumor - After CES this year, Sony is going to officially reduce the PS/3 40gb to $299. Completely unsubstantiated at this time, but stranger things have happened. Stay tuned: same bat time, same bat channel.

Wal-mart (USA), for a limited time will give away a $100 Wal-mart gift card with the purchase of a PS3 40GB $399 or Panasonic Blue-ray DVD player $448. This is advertised in a flyer geared toward Father\'s Day which is June 15th so this promotion may end on that day, the flyer only shows supplies limited.

The deal mentioned previously at SonyStyle (USA) for a $100 credit with a new credit card, extended payment with no interest is still good.

June 12th there will be a new PS3 with 80GB - Take your gaming to the next level with the 80GB PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system featuring PlayStation®2 backward compatibility, new DUALSHOCK®3 wireless controller and the highly-anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots game. This again has 4 USB ports and memory card slots. $499 USD.
